I would absolutely be lying if I said that going from one to two was easy. It's been a challenge, on many fronts; but more importantly, it's been a joy. The sleepless nights, hours of colic crying and genuine fear that it will never stop, has finally passes. While we were busy trying to adjust to the world of having a newborn again, Ava fell out of some very good habits that she had. Bedtime started to get later and later, meals were only with one parents (because the other one was usually walking circles around the main floor trying to calm a crying Emma) and bath time was more like a race against the clock. Oh, and when we first brought Emma home, we were lucky to get a matching outfit on Ava. (Which those of you who know me well, know how important it is to me for my children to be well dressed.)
Emma is finally in a fairly solid routine, at night anyways. She is sleeping (most nights) from about 8:30 until about 7 am. She is waking up once, typically between 3-5 for a quick diaper change and meal, then right back to sleep. As for the colic, it's basically gone. We are down from about six hours a day or crying to less than one. It's fantastic.
Ava has adjusted SO incredibly well to the role of big sister. As soon as she wakes, she asks about her "sister, baby Emma". She is so sweet. She will come into our room in the morning and talk to Baby Emma and tell her all about her dreams the night before - melts our hearts. Ava does not like to be away from Baby Emma either. She also has a true instinct about the demands of a newborn, maybe Ava is a natural born little Mommy. If Emma gets upset, without even saying anything, Ava knows it's time to sit down with a book, coloring or the iPad - because Mommy and/or Daddy need to tend to Baby Emma. We do not give Ava enough credit for being so good during this transitional time.
With all this being said, between working, mothering and attempting to sleep, our blog has been slightly neglected. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the last few weeks. One of my favorite's being the picture of our niece, Jordan, when she was down we treated her to a birthday horse back riding lesson. She was a tremendous help when she was here and I don't honestly know how I would've survived without her. I can't wait for her to come back for another week next summer!
Also please note, the Tettambels are PUMPED for the summer Olympics in London. I am not sure if it's because Mommy and Daddy desperately want to go there to visit or if it's just the fond memories we each have of watching these games as a child. To kick off the Olympics this morning, we made red, white and blue pancakes, while watching the early morning bike race. Ava is the best cook, even though she prefers to wear her superhero cape over her apron these days!
