Last Saturday, we hosted 40-50 of Ava's closest friends and family for an Elmo Birthday Bash! She loved every second of it. We rented a huge bouncy house and slide, that the children LOVED. Mommy, Grammy and Grandma T all helped cook for this LARGE crowd. While the cooking was stressful at times - all-in-all it was very fun and well worth all the prep work! After baking 4 dozen cupcakes and making a TON of coordinating decorations - the party was a huge success. My favorite part of the party was, our generous girl, decided to donate the birthday gifts that were given to her, to the local Children's Hospital. We were clear on the invitation to the party, that in lieu of gifts, please bring an unwrapped toy to donate. This was also TOTALLY worth it. Next week, we are taking a trip to the Hemby to deliver the large FULL box of toys and I'm sure it will be very appreciated. One of the most important things we want to instill, from as young of an age as possible, is the importance of philanthropy. We are an incredibly blessed family and it's so much more fulfilling to give to those in need.
We will be doing something very similar, as we've signed up for a Toy Drive at St. Jude's Children's hospital. We will be sending gifts for two children who are in long term cancer care at this hospital in just a few weeks - so that they will have a wonderful Christmas morning in Tennessee. Also, I wanted to bring to everyone's attention an organization we are currently involved in: Fight Like Paxton. A friend, of a friend, is Paxton. He recently lost his fight against cancer at a VERY young age. His parents, are are NC State fans, living in Raleigh, NC, started their organization to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer. Even something as small as ordering a t-shirt raises funds, and awareness, by wearing it proudly around your town. I encourage any of our blog followers to check out their website or facebook page.
I've posted more of Ava's birthday party pictures on my facebook page, but here is a taste of how the party went.....
